So I’ve been having some thoughts again.. and most of the thoughts led me to the title of this post.
What does the future look like?
Gaining perspective from the subject’s point of view is the most basic requirement for understanding. So fyi…
I am an African woman in my early 30s born and raised in America. Grew up in a Christian household in ‘the hood’ and had the opportunity to attend various post-secondary institutions. No children as of yet…
So what does the future look like for a woman such as myself?
Well, it depends on what future we are looking at.
If we are talking about the future of creating a family with an emotionally competent man, then the future looks grim. It looks even more grim if I am looking for such a man in my community… but those are thoughts for other days.
However, if we’re talking about personal development, it’s looking pretty good, especially in these oyinbo peoples’ land. I have the basic necessities of life – shelter, water and food. Thank God I also have safety as well as love. According to Maslow’s hierarchy of needs, I am well on my way to self actualization.
Since personal development has a brighter future, I am burgeoning forward in that direction. Looking to develop and scale support services tailored for those in need. Email upliftingbp@proton.me for a safe space to talk. I promise to listen 🙂
Found this interesting link that calculates privilege. Some of the questions could have been worded better or straight up removed but it was fun to complete nonetheless. I scored in the low 30s. Unsure if that’s high or not.
